Tord Boontje

This ethereal Dutch designer, was born in Enschede in 1968 and grew up in a creative environment. His mother was a teacher of art history and textiles and he remembered exploring various aspects of design at a young age. Attributing his ability to delve forward expanding in experimentation, his design education at Eindhoven and his continuation at the Royal College of Art, contributed to his ability of widening his perspective by merging art and craft techniques with advanced technology. Thus, new creations magnificently flowered.

This creative innovator has transformed recycled glass to graceful elegant vases and other decorative pieces, which became famous in the transGlass collection. Another well known project is the Swarovski Crystal Blossom Chandelier which was made from an imitation of a blossom tree bough.

A teacher of his talents and a man who excels in growth, Tord Boontje has collaborated in various areas of the arts. He has combined his artistic expertise with a computer programmer Andrew Allenson and digital artist Andrew Shoben. He has also expanded his essence of floral magnificance in the area of functional art.

A leader in the creative world, his studio based in France - Studio Tord Boontje, he has become a demanded figure in both the fashion and design communities. Some of his clientele include Alexander McQeen, Moroso, Kvadrat, Swarovski, Perrier Joet, and British Airways. His work may also be seen in the permanent collections of New York's Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and Stedelijik and Groninger Museums in the Netherlands.

Along with the renowned architect Micheal Graves, Bontje has also had a huge impact on Target, developing designs for many products and heightening its reputation.
